Grade 5 PSA Environmental Awareness Project

Hello fifth graders!  In this exciting project for Earth Week starting on April 22,  we are going to create a Public Service Announcement (PSA) video using iMovie that promotes earth awareness and encourages other students to do their part and make a difference. Helping protect the environment, is one way to show good citizenship...so make a difference yourself by persuading your fellow students to help make our world a better place and save our only home, planet Earth.

Learning Targets:
I can help protect the environment.
ESLR. I can be a collaborative contributor.
I can be a caring citizen.

Project Overview:  You will be working with a team to create a Public Service Announcement (PSA) using iMovie that will inspire others to become more aware of their contribution to take care of our earth. Do some research to inform people about or persuade people to take action to do their part to care of our planet.  Help raise public awareness to protect and improve our environment for a better future and make everyday Earth Day!

Here are some examples of PSA movies you can look at to get started with:

Now you got the idea...

Start planning with your group:
1. Fill in the Planning Guide.  One student from each group clicks on the link to open the Planning guide, which is set only for viewing and not editing.  Go to File>Make a copy and then share it with the rest of the group, making sure the sharing settings is set to "edit" so that the rest of your team members can help complete the document.

a. Decide on the Problems/Issues that you would focus on.  Refer to the '50 Things Kids can do to help Save planet earth' book and some of these sites online:

b. Facts
- Earth Day facts and figures
- 50 Simple Things Kids can do to Save the Earth 'Did You Know' (book)

c. Message ( Tips on How to solve the problem)

2. Fill in your storyboard.
